Vendel Era cloisonné earrings from Uppsala.

Here you can buy a pair of earrings after a cloisonné pendant from the Vendel period, which was found in Uppsala / Sweden.

The original cloisonné pendant, after which this replica is made, dates to the period 550 - 650 AD, i.e. the Scandinavian Vendel Age, which immediately preceded the Viking Age.

Link to the historical model...

In contrast to the historical cloisonné pendant, these earrings are not made of genuine almandine cloisonné but of red glass enamel and they are not made of gold like the original find but made of cast bronze.

The cloisonné earrings measure without hooks 2 x 1.5 cm and thus correspond to the original dimensions.

You can buy the Vendel Era earrings in high-quality bronze or in real silver-plated.

The golden garnet pendant which was the base for these earrings was found during archaeological excavations in Upland and is the first of its kind ever found in Sweden. It is assumed that the jewellery was worn as a status symbol by a woman of high aristocratic birth. The red garnets are set on a base of ribbed gold leaf to enhance the light reflections.

The find was made by a student during excavations on a mound located next to the present church in Gamla Uppsala and may have been placed in the ground as a kind of offering. It is assumed that the jewellery was worn as a status symbol by a woman of high aristocratic birth. The red garnets are set on a base of ribbed gold leaf to enhance the light reflections.

The pendant dates from the late 5th or early 6th century. The cloverleaf shape may be an early variant of a Christian cross. The pendant was not made in Sweden, but was probably imported from another country in the North Sea area. Similar jewellery is known especially from Anglo-Saxon England.
