1.5 cm wide Avar belt of the early Middle Ages.
The 1.5 cm wide Avar belt has a replica of a palmette-decorated bronze belt buckle, which was made after a Merovingian find from the 7th - 8th century.
The Avar leather belt can be worn wrapped due to its length and is therefore ideally suited for garb in Viking and medieval reenactment. Two embossed lines along the sides also give the Avar belt a slim line.
Two sizes are available:
Belt N: Length 148 cm - Circumference 83 - 101 cm
Belt EX: Length 163 cm - Circumference 93 - 111 cm
The bronze buckle measures 4 x 2.5 cm. A belt with matching strap end is also available.
This extends the Avar belt by a further 5 cm.
As was common with Avar belt garnitures during the Merovingian period, there is also a choice of other strap ends in various sizes that can be used to complement the main strap on secondary straps. See below.
The sturdy, open-edged Avar belt is made of very hard-wearing cowhide 2.8 - 3.2 mm thick. The velvet-matt waxed belt leather acquires that natural patina over time that is so characteristic of genuine, vegetable-tanned leather.
You can tell at first glance: This belt is characterised by longevity!
A neat leather belt for every situation in Viking and early medieval re-enactment, cut directly from the tanned hide and not sewn, but sturdily riveted.
