Replica of an Avar belt end from Vrap.
This detailed replica of an openwork belt end from the Merovingian period was made after an Avar model from Vrap in present-day Albania, which dates to the 7th century.
Belt sets were very common among the Avars in the Kapartic Basin during the Early Middle Ages and were an important expression of rank, status and clan within Avar society - belt sets are therefore often found in Avar finds from the Merovingian period.
The Avar belt end from Vrap measures 9.5 x 2.7 cm.
The end of the strap is suitable for belts with a width of 3 cm.
The Avar belt end by Vrap is made of high-quality bronze and is also available in genuine silver-plated.
Fastening:
As evidenced by historical examples, the Avar belt end replica has four pins 8 mm long on the back.
These are best bent slightly at the tip with round-nosed pliers and then simply tapped flat with a hammer.
