Large Viking bangle in men's size.
This massive Viking bangle is worked from a find at Skaill on the Orkney Isles and dates from around 800 to 1000 AD.
In 1858, a boy named David Linklater found a few pieces of silver in the ground while digging around. Soon he was surrounded by a crowd of people. Together they dug up over a hundred individual pieces and soon held in their hands the greatest treasure from the Viking Age ever found in Scotland.
The Viking Age bangle from Skaill with plain striking embossing is cast from bronze and carefully polished. The bangle is also available in silver plated.
The Viking bangle is easy to bend and its size makes it particularly suitable for a strong wrist.
Dimensions Viking bangle: 8.5 x 7.5 x 1 cm. Circumference 21 to 23 cm.
In the Viking Age, such bangles were not only used as jewellery but also as a means of payment, which is why this type of bangle is also called a money bangle. The Viking thus carried his wallet on his wrist, so to speak, and broke off a larger or smaller piece as needed, which was then used to pay.
