Raven shaped amulet of the Vendel Era.
The expressive raven amulet is made after a bird fitting from the Vendel period, which was found as a pair on the Swedish island of Gotland and dates from around 600 AD.
The raven amulet represents one of the ravens of the Germanic god Odin / Wotan, who always accompanied the father of the gods with his companion on his ways.
The style of the amulet belongs to the Vendel period, which immediately preceded the Viking Age. Depictions of birds are very common in this period, and they were widespread throughout the Germanic area until the Viking Age.
Dimensions raven amulet Vendel period: 4 x 2 cm.
The Vendel period raven amulet is made of high-quality bronze and is also available in real silver plated.
A black leather cord in 1 m length for the amulet is enclosed.
The raven has probably appeared as a figure in the myths and fairy tales of mankind since time immemorial and was even sacred among the Germanic tribes. For example, the ravens Hugin and Munin were the faithful companions of the father of the gods Wotan / Odin, who sent them out into the world every morning to bring him new news in the evening, because Odin was the god of wisdom. Hugin here stands for thought, thinking and wisdom, whereas Mugin stands for memory, recollection and omniscience.
