Here you can buy an authentic Viking sax suspension with a snake shaped ring, that was made after a find from Birka / Sweden.

Sax suspensions of this kind are known from various Viking Age sites, especially from Birka and Gotland. These suspensions were used on Viking Age sax scabbards as a connection between the scabbard body and the belt loop.

What is special about this find is the expressive ring in the shape of a coiled snake that connects the parts. The snake ring comes from a Viking sax of the 10th Century AD found in grave 944 during excavations in the Viking city of Birka.

The motif of the snake appears quite often in Viking art and is a symbol of renewal, as a snake regularly sheds its skin and is thus virtually reborn again and again.

The Viking Sax suspension consists of a set with a large fitting for the body and a small one for the belt loop, as well as the snake-shaped ring.

The large fitting measures 2.5 x 2.3 cm, the small one 2 x 1.5 cm. The ring measures 4 x 2.5 cm.

All parts are made of high-quality cast bronze or in genuine silver-plated.

Four brass pins are included to attach the Viking Sax suspensions to the scabbard. For mounting, these pins are simply inserted through the respective holes in the leather and shortened approx. 1 mm above the fitting with a side cutter.
The pins can then be tapped with a hammer in circular motions and the suspension permanently attached to the Sax scabbard in this way.
