Belt of the Rus based on models from the Viking Age.

This Rus belt from the Viking Age has a buckle replica that was found in Novgorod and dates to the 10th-11th century.

The belt buckle on this Viking Age belt is typical of Rus buckles in Ukraine and western Russia.

The 1.5 cm narrow Rus belt is made of black or brown cowhide leather in 2.5 - 3 mm thickness and is available with a silver or brass-coloured zinc alloy belt buckle.

Rus belt circumference: 88 - 103 cm (total length 160 cm).

The Rus belt has a generous length and can therefore be worn wrapped. Perfect for LARP and Viking reenactment garb. Two embossed lines along the sides give the Viking-era belt a slim line.

The term ‘Rus’ refers to the peoples of Scandinavian and Slavic descent who settled in Ukraine and western Russia during the Viking Age, and who experienced a golden age in the territory of what is known as Kievan Rus’ in the 11th century.
The name is now thought to be derived from the Old Norse word *roğr, meaning ‘rowing’ or ‘rowing crew’

One of the most common theories regarding the origin of the Rus suggests that the Rus, also known as the Varangians, were peoples from the Swedish region who migrated to north-western Russia between the 7th and 9th centuries and spread as far as the borders of the Byzantine Empire.

Over time, the originally Scandinavian term ‘Rus’ also came to be used to describe the originally Slavic inhabitants of this region. Instead of ‘Rus’, the ethnic groups of Scandinavian origin were now referred to as ‘Varangians’, although in Kiev they primarily acted as warriors, whereas in Novgorod they were more commonly traders.
