Flint stone for fire striking like in the Middle Ages.

Here you can buy a typical flint stone, which was used to make fires in the Middle Ages.

With such a flint stone and a fire striker, you can start a crackling fire in a few easy steps - but you need a little patience and practice.

The dimensions of the flint are about 3-4 x 4-5 cm.
Each flint has a different shape and size, so there can be considerable variations.

With a flint stone, an iron fire striker and dry tinder, you can start a fire with a little practice. By striking the flint stone evenly with the fire striker, a spark is created that causes the dry tinder to smoulder.

Unlike the sharp-edged flints you can buy from us, naturally occurring flints are usually more rounded and even. However, to create a spark with a flint, you need as sharp an edge as possible.

Once the tinder glows, you have to create a small flame from the delicate glow by blowing carefully and evenly, which - nicely "fed" with tinder material - soon becomes a real fire.

Dried birch fungus is suitable as tinder, along with bulrush and fine birch paper, as well as half-rotten pieces of wood and resinous pine shavings.
