Flint - ideal for making fire, like in the Middle Ages.
A crackling fire can be lit in just a few simple steps with a fire steel and flint stone.
To create a spark, you need a flint with a sharp edge, as the sharp flint edges produce the best sparks - but a little patience and practice are always required.
The dimensions in length + width + heightare about 8 to 10 cm.
Each flint has a different shape and size, so there can be considerable variations. The images shown are therefore only examples.
With flint, fire steel and tinder, you can easily start a fire with a little practice. Striking the flint with a carbonised fire stick produces a small spark which quickly causes the dry tinder to smoulder.
Careful, steady blowing will soon turn the glow into a small flame, which - well "fed" - will soon become a real fire. Dried birch sponge fungus, cattail and fine birch paper are suitable as tinder.
