Roman dolphin earrings in the shape of a Triskele.
Roman dolphin earrings in the shape of a Triskele based on a Roman find from the 2nd to 3rd century.
The historical model for these dolphin earrings is a large decorative disc from a private collection and was possibly a phalera, i.e. the decorative disc of a Roman sword belt, or was used as a fitting.
The triple circular arrangement of the dolphins on these earrings is reminiscent of a Celtic Triskele, which was widespread in object art in the late 2nd century due to Celtic influences in the Roman Empire. It was regarded as a lucky number and represented the cycle of birth, blossom and end and thus the connection to the divine and supernatural.
The Roman dolphin earring has a diameter of around 2.5 cm. Supplied as a pair.
You can buy the Roman ear rings in high-quality bronze or genuine silver-plated.
Alternatively, you can also order it in 925 sterling silver (please note delivery time). Alloy...
Dolphins were often thematised in the myths of antiquity and were seen as helpful creatures. According to legend, for example, they saved the shipwrecked poet Arion of Lesbos from drowning.
The Greek god Apollo is also said to have transformed himself into a dolphin, and dolphins were known as messengers of the sea god Poseidon in ancient mythology. In Roman art, the god of love Eros was also frequently depicted riding a dolphin.
