This Viking fishtail pendant is made of high-quality bronze and also available in genuine silver plated.
Fishtail pendants (In Swedish called fiskhuvudformiga hängen) were used as jewellery in the women's costume of the late Vendel and early Viking period from the 8th to the 10th century and were found only on Gotland.
The fishtail pendants could be made of thin bronze sheets, but more often there were cast in bronze and sometimes also provided with silver-plated parts.
Originally, fishtail pendants were worn strung together as a kind of necklace with up to more than 30 pieces, but many of these pendants were misappropriated during the Viking Age and instead fitted with an eyelet for a chain or even converted into a brooch, whereby up to three pendants were linked together.
