The gold treasure from Hiddensee is a 16-piece find from the Viking Age, which was recovered as flotsam and jetsam on the Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee between 1872 and 1874 and is considered an outstanding example of Viking goldsmith's art.
The Hiddensee treasure weighs a total of almost 600 grams and consists of a 44-centimetre-long neck ring, a disc brooch, four smaller and six larger cross pendants as well as four intermediate links made of pure gold. The Hiddensee crosses bear a bird's head and are decorated with filigree granulations.
The treasure was made around 970/980 AD and because of its uniqueness and preciousness, is also associated with the Danish King Harald Bluetooth who lived at the same time, although there is no definite proof of this as yet.
