Medieval bronze comb with a copulating lovers couple.
Here you can buy a reproduction of a medieval comb made of bronze that shows a satiric motif of a copulating couple.
The historical model for this medieval comb comes from Bruges in the Netherlands and dates from 1325 to 1375 AD.
It is published in the book "Sieraad en devotie in middeleews vlaandreen" by Jos Kolderweij.
The medieval bronze comb measures 5 x 4 cm and has a small eyelet for hanging.
A black leather strap is included.
Made of high-quality bronze and also available in real silver-plated.
Small combs were widely used in the Middle Ages for beard care and especially for combing out lice. This bronze comb is also fully functional and suitable for hair care.
The comb shows a copulating couple and was originally not intended for use, but a satirical pewter badge worn at carnival time.
The erotic motif was presumably intended to allude ironically to the fact that brothel-goers often had to comb out their hair in the middle of their bodies afterwards with a similar comb.
