Medieval chest lock.

Medieval chest lock of iron modelled on historical models of hand-forged chest locks from the Viking Age.

A forged chest lock was simply indispensable in the Viking Age and the Middle Ages for keeping valuables and utensils safe.

Similar chest locks are known from the Viking city of Hedeby as well as from other finds of chests and chests from the Viking Age, e.g. from Winchester, Birka and Mästermyr.

This medieval chest lock is equipped with an ingenious locking mechanism. The special key is used to compress a spring inside the chest so that the lock is released and the chest lock can be opened with a sideways movement of the bolt.

The chest lock is secured with 10 iron nails, which are hammered into the inside of the chest.
The nails are included in the delivery.

The medieval chest lock measures 20 x 7 cm.

Upper hinge part 13 x 6 cm, hasp 14 x 2 cm. Key 12 x 2 cm.
