Viking nail cleaner based on a find from Birka.
This replica of a Viking nail cleaner is modelled on a find from the Viking town of Birka in Lake Mälaren in Sweden.
The nail cleaner is made of high-quality bronze, and you can also buy this Viking nail cleaner in real silver plated. The model for this replica dates back to the 10th century.
Nail cleaners were an indispensable part of women's costumes in the Viking Age. Nail cleaners were therefore found in many different forms in Viking settlement areas.
Nail cleaners and ear spoons were often attached, together with tweezers and awls, to a long chain or leather strap on the shell fibulae of women's garments and hung down from there at belt level.
The Viking Age nail cleaner has the dimensions: 7.5 x 1.3 cm.
A black leather cord in 1 m length is included.
Here you can also buy a matching ear spoon in the same style as the Viking nail cleaner.
Bronze ear spoons, nail cleaners and tweezers have been used by our ancestors for personal hygiene since the Bronze Age. For the Egyptians and Romans, they were even part of the medical instruments, and they were still indispensable for hygiene and beauty care for the Germanic and Viking peoples.
