Viking ear spoon after a find from Birka.
This faithful replica of a historical ear spoon is based on an original find from the Viking town of Birka in Lake Mälaren in Sweden.
Ear spoons were, so to speak, the "Q-tip" of the Vikings and an
important part of women's costumes. Ear spoons were therefore found in many different forms everywhere in the settlement areas of the Vikings.
Link to the original Viking ear spoon...
The ear spoon of the Vikings was attached to a
long chain or leather strap on the shell fibulae of the women's garment and hung down from there at belt level. Often a pair of tweezers and an awl were also attached to the ear spoon in this way.
The Viking ear spoon replica
measures 6.5 x 1.3 cm (with ring 7 x 1.8 cm).
A black leather cord of 1 metre length is included.
You can buy this Viking ear spoon in high-quality
bronze or in real
silver-plated.
Ear spoons and fine tweezers made of bronze have been used for
personal hygiene since the Bronze Age. For Egyptians and Romans, they were even part of the medical instruments, and they were also widespread among Germanic and Viking peoples as indispensable components of hygiene and beauty care.
