The term situla (Latin for "bucket") actually refers to metal vessels from the Bronze Age and early Iron Age. However, the term situla is also used for the filigree bucket pendants of the late Antiquity and the early Viking Age.

Pendants in the form of miniature vessels have been discovered in various pagan Anglo-Saxon and Viking Age grave finds. For example, situla pendants shaped like bronze buckets have been found in Driffield in Yorkshire and in Vimose Moor in Denmark.

Another interesting example of the widespread use of these miniature buckets is the Viking hoard of Hoen in Norway, the largest Norwegian find of Viking gold, in which three such buckets were found.
