Stave chain with Viking key replica.
The Viking chain that you can buy here was made after the archaeological find and is provided with a detailed replica of a Viking key made of bronze.
Chains are found in all kinds of forms in the grave finds of the Viking Age, especially in eastern Sweden and on Gotland as well as in the Baltic States, and were often used to attach so-called functional pendants such as pin boxes, keys or hygiene tools.
The Viking chain has a small S-hook at one end, which is hooked into a brooch attached to the chest.
The complete chain measures 29 cm including hook and key and is thus sufficiently long for the Viking to be at about waist height.
The Viking key was made according to a historical model in the so-called gripping beast style and belongs to a Viking find from the 9th century. The original of this Viking key is now exhibited in the Danish National Museum. Link to the original key...
