This particular type of Viking dress pin (Swedish: ringnål) was primarily a feature of men’s clothing during the Viking Age and is fitted with a movable ring. To fasten the cloak, the dress pin is inserted vertically through the layers of fabric. The ring tilts forwards and downwards, and its weight secures the dress pin in place.
You can buy this Viking ringed pin in bronze or genuine silver-plated.
Alternatively, you can also order it in 925 sterling silver (please note delivery times).

The Viking cloak essentially consisted of just a rectangular piece of woollen fabric, which was fastened over the right shoulder like a cape using a brooch or a cloak pin, and often even served as a blanket. The cloak was an indispensable item of clothing and was worn by men and women alike. Brooches and ring pins for fastening the cloak are therefore found in very large numbers amongst archaeological finds from the Viking Age.
