Print manufacturer information

Viking sax blade based on a model from Gotland.

This medium-sized sax blade made of carbon steel is based on the Swedish sax long knives, which are found in abundance in the finds from Birka and Gotland and were typical of the eastern Swedish Vikings.

The Sax was very common not only among the Vikings, but also among Anglo-Saxons, Franks and other Germanic tribes because a Sax was not only well suited for everyday use as a kind of "machete", but was also a cheap and handy weapon that could be used well in the shield wall.

Unlike the continental saxes of the Franks, which had a rather stocky shape, and the insular saxes from the Anglo-Saxon region, which often had bowie-knife-like blades, the Scandinavian saxes, especially in eastern Sweden, were rather long and narrow.

The "Gotland" sax blade has a hardness of 58 to 60 Rockwell.

Dimensions of the sax blade:
Total length 40 cm
Cutting edge 28 cm
Blade height 2.8 cm
Blade back 3.5 mm
Tang 12 cm
