Viking seax from Birka after a historical find.
This typical Viking seax or long knife is based on finds from the Swedish island of Björkö from the 9th to 10th century AD.
Seaxes in the form of long knives were typical of men's costumes in the Viking Age in eastern Sweden and are known above all from the Viking settlement of Birka and from Gotland.
The walnut handle on this high-quality Viking seax is particularly worthy of attention, as it has also been skilfully crafted with individual layers of leather and brass.
The Viking seax comes complete with a leather sheath. This is not worn on the side, but on the back, with the handle pointing to the right. There is a small ring at the end of the handle so that the Birka seax can be easily pulled out of the scabbard.
The Viking Sax is sharpened and has a brightly polished blade of AISI 1070 carbon steel with 56 - 58 HCR Rockwell.
The Birka Viking Seax has the following dimensions:
Overall length 40 cm
Blade length 28 cm
blade width 3 cm
Blade back 4 mm
