Viking pouch fitting from Birka.
Replica of a pouch mount for the flap of a Viking bag after a historical model from the Viking town of Birka, dating to the 10th century.
The Viking pouch fitting was found together with other fittings and a central bag fitting, as well as several rim fittings on a Viking bag. Of four pieces, one of these diamond-shaped Viking bag fittings was found in each corner of the bag lid.
Viking pouch fittings are known from several find sites and are more frequently found in the archaeological find material of the Rus and Eastern Vikings in Sweden, Gotland and the Ukraine or Russia.
The Viking pouch fitting from Birka measures 2.5 x 1.5 cm.
The pouch fitting is made of high-quality bronze and is also available in genuine silver-plated.
Fastening: There are four pins on the back of the Viking pouch fitting. To fasten the fitting, simply insert the pins through the corresponding holes in the leather. Use pliers to bend the tip of each pin inwards a little. If you then tap the pins flat with a hammer, the tip will sink into the leather and the Viking pouch fitting will be stable and flat on the bag lid.
