Viking belt fitting with braided ornament.
Viking belt fitting with braided ornamentation based on a historical model from the Viking Age in the Borre style of the 9th to 10th centuries.
The model for this belt fitting was a small disc brooch from the 10th century that was found in Birka.
An identical brooch of this type is now in the possession of the British Museum in London. Link to the historical model...
Belt fittings were very common in the Viking period and are often found in Viking fun material. Especially among the eastern Vikings in Sweden, Gotland and Russia, very richly studded belt fittings are often found as grave goods.
The diameter of the Viking belt fitting is 2.5 cm.
The belt fitting is available in high-quality bronze and in genuine silver-plated.
Fastening: There are four pins on the back of the Viking Age belt buckle. To fasten the decorative rivets, simply insert them through the corresponding holes in the leather. It is best to use pliers to bend the tip of the pin inwards a little. If you then tap the pins flat with a hammer, the tip will sink into the leather and the belt fitting will be fixed stable and flat on the belt.
