Roman comb replica with dolphin motif.

The Roman dolphin comb measures 6.5 x 4.2 x 1.7 cm, which is almost identical to the historical model.

You can purchase the dolphin comb in high-quality cast bronze or in genuine silver-plated bronze.

The two tails of the dolphins form an opening to which a leather strap can be attached, allowing the Roman dolphin comb to be worn comfortably on a belt or around the neck.

Bronze combs were part of everyday personal hygiene in ancient times and were both functional utensils and an expression of aesthetic sensibility. Particularly figurative examples show that even everyday objects in the Roman Empire were adorned with decorative and symbolic elements.

The dolphin was a popular motif in Roman imagery. It was considered a positive symbol of happiness, protection and joie de vivre and appears frequently in Roman art, on jewellery, household items and personal accessories. According to legend, for example, they saved the shipwrecked poet Arion of Lesbos from drowning.

According to legend, the Greek god Apollo also transformed himself into a dolphin, and dolphins were known in ancient mythology as messengers of the sea god Poseidon. In Roman art, the god of love, Eros, was also often depicted riding a dolphin.
