Pilgrim badge pendant "Winged penis with crown".

Here you can buy a winged penis pendant with crown and bell, made after a phallic pewter badge from the late Middle Ages.

This extraordinary medieval pilgrim's badge was made after a historical find from the Netherlands, which dates from 1375 to 1425 AD and is now in the possession of the Langbroek, Van Breuningen collection.

Link to the historical model...

This medieval pilgrim's sign shows a winged penis, a so-called phallic creature, dressed in baggy trousers and shoes and wearing a crown on its head. On its shaft, a strap is strapped around the penis.

Medieval pilgrim badges with depictions of personalized and often winged penises were very common, especially in the Netherlands, but also in Belgium and England and other northern European countries, and were used for amusement at Shrovetide.

The winged penis pilgrim badge has an eyelet on the back to attach it to the clothing or to wear it as a pendant. A black leather strap in 1 m length is included.

The penis badge measures 3 x 3 cm and thus almost corresponds to the historical model.

You can buy this medieval badge in bronze or in real silver-plated.
Alternatively, also available in 925 sterling silver (Please note the delivery time).
Alloy...

The winged penis pilgrim badges of the late Middle Ages represent a sub-group of the profane pewter signs, which, in addition to bawdy representations of so-called phallic trees, phallic ships or personified representations of vulvae, include in particular the phallic creature, a half-humanly depicted phallus, which was provided with legs and often also wings and could sometimes wear a crown or small bell.

The most likely interpretation for the phallic signs of the late Middle Ages is that this was an attempt to defuse sexuality with the aid of comedy and that it was used as a means of promoting communication in the course of gender initiation, primarily in the course of the debauched customs at Shrovetide.
