Viking bead with granulation decoration.
This Viking bead is modelled on a historical find from the 9th to 10th century, which was made using an elaborate granulation technique.
In the granulated beads of the Vikings, small balls and fine wires were soldered onto the bead in filigree minute work.
Our Viking bead, on the other hand, is cast entirely in one piece, and the filigree design is magnificently expressed.
Viking bead Dimensions: 1.8. Hole diameter 3 mm.
You can buy this Viking bead in high-quality bronze and in genuine silver-plated.
Viking beads were often decorated with elaborate, filigree granulation in the form of fine silver wires, strings of beads and spheres. Goldsmiths excellently understood how to produce these elaborate Viking beads with the simplest of means.
The basis for these Viking beads was a chased or cast basic form made of thin silver sheet, onto which the granulation decoration was then soldered, whereby the solder left no traces that could be seen by the eye.
This gave the appearance that the filigree granulations were virtually floating above the surface of the Viking bead.
