The lunula amulet in the shape of half a moon is symbolic of feminine powers and thus symbolises the power of the moon. Among other things, the lunula amulet was intended to protect the unborn child and protect the mother from harm.

The lunula amulet was already known to the Romans. Moon pendants symbolising the Roman moon goddess Luna can be found in many Roman settlements, military camps and burial sites from the 2nd century AD. Lunula amulets were also widespread among the Germanic tribes.
