Viking amulet depicting a Valkyrie from Tuna.
This faithful replica of a Viking amulet shows the depiction of a small female figure, nobly dressed and with an elaborate hairstyle.

They were most likely worn as protective amulets in this period, as Valkyries were considered in Norse mythology to be the women who chose the souls of the fallen warriors (Einherijr) after battle to guide them into the halls of Valhalla.
Dimensions of the Valkyrie of Tuna: 3.4 x 1.5 cm.
