Hiddensee cross - reproduction.
Here you can buy a replica of the famous Hiddensee Cross, a remarkable Viking pendant from the 10th century AD.
The famous gold treasure of Hiddensee was probably made by
Jutland goldsmiths and buried by its owner until it was uncovered after a stormy night on the Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee.
The Hiddensee cross is a
unique testimony to Viking Age jewellery craftsmanship and combines pagan symbolism with Christian influences in an inimitable way.
The Hiddensee treasure is now in the possession of the
Stralsund Museum of Cultural History. In addition to various pieces of jewellery made of gold, it also included six cross pendants, all of which were decorated with a bird's head and filigree granulation.

The gold treasure of Hiddensee consists of
16 pieces and was recovered between 1872 and 1874 as flotsam and jetsam on the Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee. To this day, it is considered one of the most outstanding examples of Viking gold smithing.
The Hiddensee treasure consists of a 44 centimetre long necklace, a disc brooch, four smaller and six larger cross pendants and four intermediate links made of
pure gold and together weighs almost 600 grams.
Due to its uniqueness and preciousness, the Hiddensee Treasure is associated with the Danish King
Harald Bluetooth, who lived at the same time, and dates back to around 970 / 980 AD.
