The Claddagh symbolises love, friendship and loyalty. According to legend, the Claddagh was forged in the form of a ring in the 17th century by Richard Joyce from the Irish fishing village of Claddagh after he was kidnapped by pirates.

In captivity, he created the Claddagh ring to express his longing for his beloved. The heart symbolizes love, the hands trust and the crown stands for loyalty.
