Wooden squared timber for making knife handles.
This knife handle block is made from ash wood and is ideal for crafting your own stylish handle for a knife.
Knives with a tang have been known since ancient times and were the standard design amongst the Germanic tribes and the Vikings. Various types of wood were used for the handles, into which the blade was set.
To complement the transition to the blade, early medieval and Viking-era knives often featured a disc of bone or horn, which was inserted decoratively between the blade and the wooden handle.
In the High Middle Ages, however, more elaborate handles were common; so-called ‘disc handles’ were particularly popular, in which the knife handle was fitted at intervals with a smaller or larger number of discs made from different materials.
