Medieval thread reel in short size.
Here you can buy a medieval spool of thread that was modelled on a historical find from the Thames in London.
The historical find that served as a model for this medieval thread reel dates back to the time between 1200 and 1400 AD.
Like the historical model from London, the medieval thread reel has ring decorations all around and is pleasant to grip. The ends are tapered so that they can accommodate shorter pieces of thread.
The dimensions of the medieval thread reel are 8 x 3 cm. It is thus significantly shorter than the historical model with a length of 14 cm.
There are some finds of thread spools from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance that show that these objects were quite common in medieval households. Typical were rural thread reels, some of which could also have subdivisions for several threads, whereas short and compact spools of thread were less common.
