Late medieval veil pin in shamrock shape.
Here you can buy an authentic giving pin or veil pin based on a medieval find from Sweden.
Finds of small pins are already known from the early Middle Ages and were used to fasten a headscarf in the hair or a veil. In the High Gothic period, such pins then became very common, and were used to fasten a tight-fitting head covering.
This replica of a medieval veil pin comes from the Vadstena Monastery in southern Sweden and was probably once used by a nun.
The head of the pin is designed as a three-leaf clover. According to legend, Saint Patrick used a three-leaf clover (shamrock) to explain the Trinity: The three leaves were supposed to symbolise the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The medieval veil pin is made of brass, and is 6 cm long and 10 mm wide according to the historical find, wire thickness 1 mm.
