The swastika brooch was made after a find from a private collection and represents a rather unique subtype of the typical swastika brooches of Roman provenance.
This type of Roman fibula is rather rare and a collateral line of the typical Roman horse-head fibulae, whereby the original form had changed to an amorphous shape. However, swastika fibulae were widespread throughout the Roman Empire, from Britain to Syria.
