50 Rectangular armour scales made of split leather.
The solid leather scales in rectangular shape are made of classic cow split leather and offer solid yet inexpensive protection.
The leather scales made of split leather in 2.5 - 3 mm thickness are simply perfect for making your own solid yet inexpensive scale armour.
The scales are prepared with two holes on one of the two narrow sides. This allows you to sew or rivet the scales onto the desired backing material, leather or fabric. The individual scales should overlap for optimal protection.
The dimensions of the armour scales are 8.5 x 4.5 cm with a hole size of 3 mm.
The leather scales are available in black or brown. All scales are of uniform colour, thus creating a scale armour with clear colouring!
The pack contains 50 leather scales of one colour each in firm cowhide split leather.
Leather scales have been used to make scale armour since ancient times by the Persians, Greeks and Romans and were still in use by the Byzantines and Vikings until the late Middle Ages. In addition to armour scales made of leather, those made of bronze, iron and even bone or horn were also used.
