Viking Age belt fitting from Birka grave 1074.
This replica of a Viking Age belt fitting with the depiction of a palmette was made after a belt set from Birka, that was found in grave 1074.
Belt and bag fittings were very common during the Viking Age and are therefore found very frequently in the find material. Especially among the eastern Vikings in Sweden, Gotland and Russia, bags and belts with rich fittings were often worn and often given as grave goods.
The belt fitting from Birka measures 2.5 x 1.8 cm.
The fitting is suitable for belts with a width of 2 to 2.5 cm.
The Viking belt fitting is made of high-quality bronze or real silver-plated.
Fastening: There are four pins on the back of the Viking-era belt fitting. To attach the decorative rivets, simply pass them through the corresponding holes in the leather. It is best to use pliers to bend the tip of the pin inwards a little. If you then tap the pins flat with a hammer, the tip will sink into the leather and the belt fitting will be stable and flat on the belt.
