Viking Age bead with granulation decoration.
This authentic replica of a barrel-shaped Viking bead is modelled on a historical find from the 9th - 10th centuries.
In the case of granulated Viking beads, small spheres and fine wires were soldered onto the bead in filigree detail work.
Our Viking bead, on the other hand, is cast completely in one piece, whereby the filigree representation is magnificently expressed.
Dimensions Viking bead: 1.8 x 1.1 cm. Hole diameter 4 mm.
This Viking bead is available in high-quality bronze and in genuine silver-plated.
In the Viking Age it was very common to decorate beads for necklaces with an elaborate filigree granulation decoration in the form of fine silver wires, strings of beads and spheres. Goldsmiths knew excellently how to produce these Viking beads with the simplest means.
The basis for the granulation decoration for the Viking beads was a chased or cast basic form made of thin silver sheet, onto which the granulated jewellery elements were then soldered.
The solder did not leave any visible traces on the Viking bead, so that the filigree granulations seemed to float above the surface.
