Large Viking Age bead with granulation decoration.
This large Viking bronze bead with lush granulation decoration was made according to a historical model from the Viking town Birka / Sweden.
The Viking bead is particularly suitable as a central bead for necklaces and colliers, as its size and decorative décor alone make it a real eye-catcher.
The granulated Viking beads were originally made by soldering small balls and fine wires onto the bead in filigree work. In contrast, the replica of this Viking bead is cast completely in one piece, whereby the filigree representation is exquisitely expressed.
Dimensions Viking bead: 1.8 x 1.8 cm. Hole diameter 4 mm.
This Viking bead is available in high-quality bronze and in genuine silver-plated.
In Viking times it was common to decorate beads for necklaces with an elaborate filigree granulation decoration in the form of fine silver wires, bead strings and spheres. Goldsmiths knew excellently how to produce these Viking beads with the simplest means.
The basis for these Viking beads was a chased or cast basic form made of thin silver sheet, onto which the granulated decorative elements were then soldered, giving the impression that the filigree granulations were virtually floating above the surface of the Viking bead.
