Beard bead with Viking style Valnut.
Here you can buy a beautiful hair bead / beard bead, which is designed in the style of the Viking Age, showing a knot motif with a Valknut in the center.
In the three interwoven triangles of the Valknut symbolically the Trinity of past, present and future is connected, which shows that they influence each other.
The beard bead "Valknut" is available in brass and silver color, made of zamac casting.
Measures of the beard bead: 1.5 x 1.2 cm. Hole diameter 6 mm.
For threading a hair bead or beard bead it is helpful to sharpen the hair strand a little bit with hair gel or water before, so that it can be led more easily through the hole of the bead.
Before threading a beard bead onto the hair, a small gum may be used for very straight hair, which makes it much easier to place the beard bead and keeps the bead securely in place. A real Viking, however, uses rather a small piece of string for this...
The triangular valknut is often found on Viking rune stones, especially on Gotland, either in connection with the war god Odin on his horse Sleipnir, or together with a warrior on a horse.
The Valknut is also called Hrungnir's heart, because the Edda reports: "Hrungnir himself had a famous heart, which was made of hard stone and with three protruding corners, just as the famous artistic carving called "Hrungnir's heart" has been made since then". Hrungnir was a giant who challenged Odin in a contest and was eventually slain by Thor.
In Norse mythology, the three triangles of the Valknut represent the three worlds of Asgard, Midgard, Utgard. The three corners of each triad once for the gods Wotan Votann, Vili and Ve (the triad of creation), for the three Norns (triad of being), as well as for Hel, Fenrir and Jörmundgandr (triad of destruction and new beginning).
The Valknut is thus a symbol of the cosmos as a unity of time and space, which relating to Odin illustrates the aspect of the wanderer between the worlds. As an Odin knot, the Valknut is thus also the sign of Odin's followers and stands as the "knot of the chosen" or "knot of the doomed" as a symbol of the warriorship that Odin consecrated to himself and once in Asgard once joined Odin at his table.
