Pendant in the shape of a scallop.
Here you can buy a medieval pendant in the shape of a scallop shell.
This medieval scallop pendant is based on historical pilgrim badges from the late Middle Ages that were designed in the shape of scallops.
The "scallop shell" pendant measures 2.5 x 2.5 cm including the ring.
A black leather cord is included.
You can buy this beautiful scallop shell pendant in bronze or in real-silver plated.
The scallop shells were used as scooping and drinking vessels on the coast of Galicia and so it became the custom in the Middle Ages to attach a so-called pilgrim's shell to the pilgrim's staff or clothing from the pilgrimage to the tomb of St. James in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, as a sign that one had actually reached one's pilgrimage destination.
In the late Middle Ages, resourceful businessmen sold badges or pendants with metal scallops on a large scale. So the scallop shell in the form of the pilgrim's shell was soon widespread throughout Europe as a religious symbol.
