Medieval puttee hooks with floral motif for winningas.

Here you can buy a set of authentic medieval puttee hooks for winningas, decorated with a delicate floral motif.

These medieval puttee hooks have been faithfully reproduced from an Anglo-Saxon find from England dating from the 8th to 9th century and are now in the possession of Buckinghamshire County Museum.

Link to the original puttee hooks...

The puttee hooks show a plant ornament in the Anglo-Saxon Trewhiddle style, which probably represents a strawberry plant that was inlaid with niello on the historical original.

Thanks to the two small eyelets, this medieval puttee hooks can be easily sewn onto the top of the winningas and stays securely in place thanks to its long hook.

You can buy the puttee hooks in high-quality bronze or genuine silver-plated.
Alternatively, also available in 925 sterling silver (please note the delivery time).
Alloy...

The dimensions are 22 x 16 cm and therefore almost correspond to the historical model.

The puttee hooks are supplied as a pair.

Putte hooks for closing the winningas were used in the Middle Ages from the late 7th to the early 11th century AD and were worn by both men and women among the Anglo-Saxons, Vikings and Slavs. They were attached to the end of woollen wrapping gaiters in the knee area and ensured a secure fit on the trouser leg. The calf wraps provided reliable protection against dirt, moisture and thorns.
