The original Viking pin dates back to the 10th century AD and was found during excavations in the harbor basin of Hedeby, a former Viking city near Schleswig in northern Germany.

The replica is much smaller than the original dragon head pin and is not used to fasten a cloak like the historical model, but is rather used as a hairpin or headscarf pin due to its small size.

The dimensions of the Viking pin are 9.5 x 2 cm.
