Bowie knife-like Viking blade made of Damascus steel.
This expressive knife blade in broken-back form is made of genuine Damascus steel with 256 layers and is based on type 6, the most frequently found blade shape from the Viking city of Haithabu.
Forged knife blades with a tang were already used by the Celts, Romans, Teutons and Vikings and were still common during the High Middle Ages. Therefore, this small blade is perfectly suited for an authentic re-enactment of those times.
The Viking knife blade "Hedeby" is equipped with a tang, which is inserted into the wooden or bone handle for attachment.
This fine knife blade made of damask is perfect for making your own authentic damascus knife at relatively low cost and for creating an individual one-of-a-kind piece that meets your own requirements in terms of form and function.
The "Haithabu" knife blade is forged from two different types of steel: AISI 4340 is a hard tempered steel that has a low carbon content, contains nickel and chromium as well as molybdenum and is very tough.
And from 15N20 a nickel-containing steel with good properties, which produces beautiful bright sections and good contrasts when processed in Damascus steel. Both steels together produce the beautifully mottled Damascus steel. Each piece forged from this steel has its own distinctive pattern. The hardness level is 58 to 60 HCR Rockwell.
Dimensions of the knife blade:
