This needle for needle binding is made of hard wood and carefully polished so that the needle glides particularly well through the wool.

Needle-binding needles of this kind were already common in Viking times and in the Middle Ages and were used to carry out the elaborate weaving work of needle binding. Needle binding needles are flat, unlike sewing needles.

This technique of needle binding is something like the precursor of crochet. It can be used to make three-dimensional textile objects - hats, socks or gloves - unlike weaving. Needle weave creates a dense, warm fabric.

Our wooden needle binding needle has a very smooth surface. This makes it easy to guide through the wool weave without getting stuck.
