Medieval bobbin with thread spool and needle box.
Here you can buy a medieval wooden thread spool with needle box, which was inspired by a historical find from the Mary Rose.
Like the historical model, the thread spool is hollow inside and closed with a wooden stopper and functions as a needle box. So you can store some sewing needles here so that they don't get lost.
The medieval thread spool is turned from a single piece of acacia wood and has a carefully polished surface.
Unlike the historical model, however, this thread reel is not divided into two parts.
The dimensions of the medieval spool are 12 x 2.5 cm, with a hole 8 mm in diameter.
There are several finds of spools of thread with a needle box from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, showing that these artefacts were quite common in medieval households.
The Mary Rose is an English warship built in Portsmouth from 1509-1511 AD. As early as 1545, however, the Mary Rose sank in a sea battle against the French during the Italian War in the Solent, a branch of the English Channel. The shipwreck, much of which has been excellently preserved, was salvaged in 1982 and can now be visited at the dockyard in Portsmouth Harbour.
19,000 items were recovered from the Mary Rose, including 137 yew longbows, several medical instruments, and a variety of household items and personal possessions of the sailors.
