Nalbinding needle made of real bone.
This needle for nalbinding is made of real bone and has a decorative carving on the top that gives the fingers a particularly secure and non-slip grip.
Needle binding needles made of bone were already widespread in Viking times and in the Middle Ages and were used to carry out the elaborate weaving work of needle binding. Needle binding needles are flat, unlike sewing needles.
This technique, known to the Vikings, is something like the precursor of crochet. Unlike weaving, it can be used to make three-dimensional textile objects - hats, socks or gloves. Needle binding creates a dense, warm fabric.
Our bone nalbinding needle has a very smooth surface. This makes it easy to guide through the wool weave without getting stuck. The decorative carving on the head of the needle makes it nice and easy to grip.
Dimensions of the bone needle: approx. 8 x 0.8 cm.
