Viking comb with case.
Here you can buy a detailed replica of a Viking comb with case that was entirely made of real bone.
Viking combs with case are known from several finds from the Viking Age. The practical comb case protected the delicate tines so that they could not break.
As with the original Viking combs, the individual parts of this bone comb were carefully glued and fastened together with small bronze rivets.
Viking comb and case have the dimensions 13.5 x 4 x 1 cm.
The comb itself measures 10.5 x 3.5 x 1 cm.
The Vikings were not the first to use such a comb made of bone. Bone combs were already very common in the time of the Celts and Romans and were even used for daily beard and hair care well into the Middle Ages.
Contrary to what is often thought, hygiene and cleanliness were also very important to the Vikings. For this reason, a Viking comb made of bone is often found in archaeological finds.
