The Viking trefoil brooch replica from Tranby.
Here you can buy a beautiful replica of a Viking Age brooch that was modelled on the trefoil brooch from Tranby in Buskerud / Norway and dates to the 10th century.
The trefoil brooch from Tranby, a small village in the province of Buskerud on the western Oslofjord, is a remarkable example of Viking Age jewellery and represents the design transition between the Borre style and Jellinge style.
The original measures 8 cm. Our reduced in size version of that trefoil brooch measures 5.2 x 5.2 cm.
You can buy the Norwegian trefoil in high-quality bronze or in real silver-plated.
On the back of the Viking trefoil brooch is a sturdy needle, which makes the brooch also suitable for fastening stronger fabrics.
As a component of Frankish military harnesses, trefoil shaped strap distributors also came to Scandinavia and were made into jewellery there. As a typical part of Viking women's costumes, trefoil brooches were soon also made in Scandinavian style.
Such brooches were used without exception in women's costumes, where the brooch was usually worn in the middle of the chest between the bowl brooches. In the middle of the 10th century, this type of brooch disappeared again from Scandinavian costume.
