Viking belt stud in Mammen style after a find from Birka.

Here you can buy a Viking Age belt stud in the Mammen style that is ideal as a decorative fitting for 2 cm wide Viking belts.

The Viking belt stud was made according to an original from the Viking city of Birka and dates to the 10th century.

The belt stud is available in brass or silver colour. Made from cast zamak

Dimensions of the Viking belt stud: 1.8 x 1.7 cm.

There is a 5 mm long pin on the back of the Viking belt fitting, onto which a small cap supplied is simply placed and fixed in place with a few light taps of the hammer.

The Mammen style emerged in the middle of the 10th century through a gradual change in the forms of the preceding Jelling style. In this style, the animal figures were depicted in long, ribbon-like forms, while in the Mammen style the motifs "grew" in width, so to speak - they took on more powerful proportions and were less abstract.

In contrast to the earlier Viking styles, the Mammen style also placed more emphasis on floral motifs thanks to inspiration from the Franconian and Anglo-Saxon regions. And so, for example, vines and acanthus leaves - completely unknown in the north! - in depictions in the Mammen style. However, it was not long before the Nordic artists remodelled these unfamiliar patterns into decorative forms - the Ringerike style was born.
