Viking Age Strap fitting from Birka with palmette motif.
This detailed replica of a Viking-period strap fitting depicting a palmette, was found on a belt set in Birka burial 1074.
Strap fittings were very common in the Viking Age and are therefore also found very often in the find material. Especially among the eastern Vikings in Sweden, Gotland and Russia, belts were often worn with rich fittings and were often given as grave goods.
The fitting from Birka burial 1074 measures 2.5 x 1.8 cm.
The strap fitting is suitable for belts with a width of 2 to 2.5 cm.
The strap fitting is made of high-quality bronze or real silver-plated.
Fastening: There are three pins on the back of the Viking-era strap fitting. To attach them, simply pass them through the holes in the leather. It is best to use pliers to bend the tip of the pin inwards a little. If you then tap the pins flat with a hammer, the tip will sink into the leather and the strap fitting will be stable and flat on the belt.
